1  Export quarantine inspection procedure

Q: I intend to take my pet bird with me when I travel to a foreign country. Are there any procedures that are required for this?

A:There will be no need for a quarantine inspection when departing from Japan for a foreign country with a pet bird. The destination country, however, may have its own entry requirements, in which case an export quarantine inspection will be conducted based on those requirements. Therefore, please contact the embassy or quarantine authorities in the destination country to confirm the requirements and then contact the Animal Quarantine Station.

Q: I will be traveling from one country to another. Will it be necessary to satisfy the requirements in each country?

A:Yes, it will be necessary for you to satisfy not only entry requirements but also departure requirements in all of the countries that you enter. This will take meticulous preparation including confirmation in advance with the embassy or quarantine authorities of each destination country.

 

2  Export quarantine inspection according to the means of transport

Q: Are there any differences in the export quarantine inspection depending on the means of transport?

A:It will not be necessary for your bird to receive a quarantine inspection on departure from Japan, whether by airplane, ship or other means of transportation. An inspection may be necessary, though, depending on the entry requirements of the destination country.

 

3  Advance notifications for the export

Q: Will it be necessary to make an advance application in order to receive an export quarantine inspection?

A:There will be no need to make an application. In order to expedite the export quarantine inspection, however, we would like to confirm in advance your departure schedule and the requirements for entry into your destination country. Therefore, please contact the Animal Quarantine Station.

 

4  Cost of the quarantine inspection

Q: How much will it cost for my pet bird to receive an export quarantine inspection?

A:There will be no charge for the inspection. However, the owner of the bird will be responsible for the care and feeding of his or her bird during the period of detention based on the entry requirements of the destination country.

 

5  Time required for the quarantine inspection

Q: How much time will it take for my pet bird to receive an export quarantine inspection?

A:If only the preparation of a certificate is needed, the procedure itself should be completed within about 10-20 minutes. Since it will take more time if it is crowded, please arrive at the Animal Quarantine Station sufficiently ahead of time.

Q: My flight leaves early in the morning. At what time do operations begin at the Quarantine Station?

A:Please contact the Animal Quarantine Station at the airport that you intend to use.
