Statistical Survey on Farm Management and Economy

Statistics of Individual Farm Management and Economy by Farming Type in 2007
(The average per business farm household income and expenditure in paddy and upland field farming)

1.     Paddy field farming (per business farm household)

     The agricultural gross income of paddy field farmers on national average per business farm household in 2007 was 9.1 million yen, 5.0% increase from the previous year because paddy field rice production increased in accordance with the expansion of planted area.
     On the other hand, the agricultural expenditure was 5.73 million yen, 6.0% increase from the previous year because the usage of production material increased in accordance with the expansion of planted area and soaring material prices.
     Consequently, the agricultural income was 3.37 million yen, an increase of 3.3% from the previous year.

2.     Upland field farming (per business farm household)

     The agricultural income of upland field farmers on national average per business household in 2007 was 5.59 million yen, 0.2% increase from the previous year.

Note: The number of farm households surveyed is 470.
 


- Paddy field farming: Farming whose sales income totaling all the crops (rice, wheat and barley, potatoes, beans and industrial crops) cultivated in paddy fields is the largest, compared to that of other types of farming.
 
- Upland field farming: Farming whose sales income totaling all the crops (rice, wheat and barley, potatoes, beans and industrial crops) cultivated in upland fields is the largest, compared to that of other types of farming.
 
- Business farm household: Farm household whose agricultural income is larger than non-agricultural income, and which has one or more family members who is engaged in the own farming for 60 days or more and is under 65 years old.
