- Production of crude tea in major producing prefectures increased by 2% compared to the previous year - |
[Outline of the survey results]
The actual tea picked area (harvested area) in major producing prefectures (Note: 1) amounted to 40,600 ha, a decrease of 300 ha (1%) compared to the previous year due to deserted tea field caused by labor shortage resulting from the aging population in Shizuoka and other prefectures.
The total tea picked area was 93,000 ha, a decrease of 800 ha (1%) compared to the previous year.
The production of raw leaves in major producing prefectures amounted to 437,000 tons, an increase of 6,800 tons (2%) compared to the previous year, because tea plants grew steadily due to generally fine weather in Kagoshima and other prefectures.
The production of crude tea in major producing prefectures amounted to 93,500 tons, an increase of 1,400 tons (2%) compared to the previous year due to raw leaves production growth.
The nationwide production of crude tea (Note: 2) amounted to 95,500 tons, an increase of 1,400 tons (1%).

|
Note: 1 This survey was conducted among main producing prefectures, and the main producing prefectures are the prefectures
which accounted for about 80 percent of national crude tea production in 2004 and implemented mutual-aid programs
for upland field crops etc.
2 National crude tea production was estimated based on the survey result in main producing prefectures.
