"Green Wave 2010" launching

May 22nd of each year is the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) proclaimed by the United Nations. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) is calling the public to participate in the "Green Wave", a
tree-planting campaign for children and youth around the world, at 10:00 a.m. local time on the IDB.
Responding to this call, the Ministry of Environment, in coordination with the Forestry Agency and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, is widely calling participation in the "Green Wave 2010", in which children and youth around the world would plant and water trees during the period from March 1st through May 31st.
If you think you can join or make a contribution to the campaign, please fill out the attached form to register.

1. About “Green Wave 2010”

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) calls for respective schools to get involved in Green Wave activities on the International Day for Biodiversity (May 22nd) at 10 a.m. local time. Through Green Wave
activities, children and youth across the world are planting trees on the ground of their schools by themselves, creating actual green wave across time-zones from east to west on the earth.
Responding to the call from SCBD, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Forestry Agency call for the widespread public to participate in “Green Wave 2010” from March 1st to May 31st (see attached form 1). The Green Wave strengthens awareness on biodiversity and promotes the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. It will also be aimed to have a chance to host the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP10) in Japan, and gain the attention to the International Year of Biodiversity.
All individuals can take part in the Green Wave, however, participants are expected to organize a group, plan some events such as tree-planting with having discussion about biodiversity, implement the group plan and do feedback, according to the SCBD guideline.
