Session of the Subcommittee of the JAS Council to be Held

MAFF will hold sessions of the Subcommittee of the Council for Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS) on Tuesday, October 11, and Wednesday, October 12, 2011.

The first session on Tuesday, October 11, will be held in the Dai-3-Tokubetsu Meeting Room at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (7th floor, door #714 of the main building). The session consists of two parts and will consider the following:

1. First part (Start at 11:00 hours)
Japanese Agricultural Standards to be revised for:
a. Log

2. Second part (Scheduled to start at 13:00)
Japanese Agricultural Standards to be revised for:
a. Organic livestock products
b. Organic feeds

Committee members for the first part will be replaced with those for the second part during a short intermission between the two parts. Those who wish to listen to the discussion are asked to apply by indicating which part they wish to listen to: “First part only,” “Second part only,” or “Both parts.”

The 2nd session at 13:00 hours on Wednesday, October 12, will be held in the Meeting Room at the Tokyo Area Center, Kanto Regional Agricultural Administration Office (5th floor, Sangoukan, Otemachi Joint Government Building, 1-3-3 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo).

a. Organic plants
b. Organic processed foods

Those who wish to listen to the discussions or make comments at the sessions are asked to apply, in Japanese, either by fax or mail. Please indicate the name, address, membership (such as organization and company), and telephone number (and fax number or e-mail address if available) of the applicant, and whether you wish to make comments or just listen to the discussion. Please note that applications by telephone will not be accepted.

One application per applicant is required. All applications, whether by fax or mail, must be received no later than 17:00 hours on Tuesday, October 6, 2011. If you wish to be accompanied by an interpreter or a disability assistance dog (i.e., a guide dog), or if you use a wheelchair, please indicate as such in the applications.

If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity of the meeting rooms, attendees will be selected by lot (around 35 attendees will be acceptable). Applicants will receive notification whether they can listen to the discussions by telephone, fax or e-mail by October 7. Attendees must present identification cards to enter the meeting rooms.

The sessions will be conducted entirely in Japanese and no interpretation will be provided.
Attendees must keep quiet and follow the instruction of the chairperson and staffs of secretariat at all times during the sessions. Otherwise, attendees may be asked to go out of the meeting rooms. Attendees must have the cell phone and beeper turned off during the sessions. Use of cameras, video recorders, IC recorders, wireless microphones, and other such devices and reading of newspapers, magazines, and other such non-related materials are prohibited during the meetings. Eating, drinking, and smoking are not permitted in the meetings. Attendees are not allowed to bring in swords, firearms, and other such dangerous goods. Entrance/exit to and from the meeting rooms during the sessions is not allowed except in case of emergency.

Attendees wishing to make comments must submit an abstract, in Japanese, to the chairperson by the prescribed deadline. Attendees may not comment beyond what is said in the submitted abstract. Attendees are allowed to make or circulate comments through their agents, with the chairperson’s approval. Please note that applications by telephone will not be accepted.
