Call for Candidates for the “Third Ryori Masters” Award

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has an award system (MAFF Ryori Masters) for chefs who are committed to making people aware of the beauty of Japanese food, and making various efforts to popularize Japanese food culture.  MAFF is now seeking candidates for this year’s award.

1. Objective

There are a large number of chefs who are proud and particular about the excellence, depth and attraction of “Japanese food”, “foodstuffs” and “food culture”, and have committed themselves to making people aware of the beauty of Japanese food, as well as making various efforts to popularize Japanese food culture by “collaborating” with producers and food companies in the national and international culinary fields. However, these chefs do not necessarily rank high compared to chefs abroad.

Therefore MAFF runs a “MAFF Ryori Masters” program for the purpose of promoting Japanese agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and rural communities and food industry. It supports the regional revitalization and overseas expansion of Japanese food companies by encouraging more visits by tourists, and by awarding such chefs for their achievements, thereby creating an environment where Japan’s leading chefs can obtain appropriate recognition and engage in further activities and mutual study.
