The Result of INWEPF Task Force Meeting for 7th World Water Forum

 

Task Force Meeting for 7th World Water Forum (WWF7) was held in Bangkok. Thailand on 18th July 2012.

Korea, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thai and Japan had this meeting in order to share the result of WWF6 at Marseille in March 2012, and discussed the new direction of INWEPF for WWF7, moreover decided the tentative activity plan of three working group. Based on the result of this meeting, five countries will discuss of new activities of INWEPF for WWF7 at the INWEPF 9th steering meeting in Yangon, in coming November.

  1. Result of activity of INWEPF in WWF6 and new direction of INWEPF for WWF7
  2. New strategy of INWEPF for WWF7
  3. New activity plan of each Working Group for WWF7
  4. Information related with cancellation of the APWS
  5. Information related with 9th steering meeting

 

 The Summary of meeting

1.Result of activity of INWEPF in WWF6 and new direction of INWEPF for WWF7

  •  INWEPF introduced the INWEPF’s activity, and conveyed three Messages “Food secrity”,”Promoting Participatory Irrigation Management” and “Multi-functionality, Balance between productivity and environmental protection” to WWF6.
  •  ICID have held the task force for WWF7 at the ICID International Executive Council in June, 2012. INWEPF have cooperated with ICID to join the World Water Forum, it is needed to cooperate with ICID in order the new activity  for WWF7 too.

  

 2.INWEPF new strategy for WWF7

  •  INWEPF will discuss the direction of new strategy for WWF7 with reference to the nine targets of “Theme 2.2 Contribute to Food Security by Optimal Use of Water” discussed at WWF6.

 

3.New activity plan of each Working Group for WWF7

  •  WG1 have an activity plan for evaluation and monetary assessment of multifunctional roles of paddy fields.
    1. To publish the guideline of the multiple roles of paddy fields,
    2. To visit site of “Water tank system of paddy” and “Recharge of groundwater”,
    3. Evaluation assessment of “Water quality improvement”, “Conservation of biodiversity ” and “Cultural, tourism & educational aspect”

 

  • WG2 have an activity plan for the dissemination of INWEPF activities.
    1. To translate the PIM guideline to Korean language, and try to translate to INWEPF 17 member’s language.
    2.  To collect the practice of GIAHS in order to share the knowledge in the GIAHS conservation area.

 

  • WG3 have an activity plan for promotion of PIM through the South-South cooperation.
    1. To implement two trial projects from Asia to Asia in 2012.
    2. To implement two trial projects from Asia to Africa in 2013.

 

4.Information related with cancellation of the APWS2

Thai government have announced the postponement of APWS2 twice, and finally the cancellation of APWS2 is decided with Thai cabinet’s approval.

 

5.Information related with 9th steering meeting

During 5th to 9th November , the 9th steering meeting and a symposium will be held in Yangon, and The Study Tour will be implemented in Nay Pyi Taw.
