Characteristics

Nishio Matcha is a vivid blue-green colored green powdered tea (matcha). The taste is delicate and mellow without hardness. It has a strong umami flavor (pleasant savory taste), that lasts for a long time.

Link with the Production Area

Tea plantations of Nishio Matcha is located in a delta surrounded by the Yahagi River and the Yahagi-Furukawa River. This condition helps the roots of tea trees to grow well and promotes tea leaves to create theanine, the umami component of the tea. Tea leaves are cultivated under the light shielding material (traditional cultivation method called “Tanashiki-Ooishita Saibai”), and gradually dried in a “Mikawa Style” tea drying oven (far-infrared drying in a brick oven stacked in five stages), and milled slowly into fine powder by using a millstone made of granite stone produced in Okazaki City. The tea production in this area has continued since the Kamakura Period (1185-1333) .
