JAS system
|
The JAS system is a third-party certification system. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) is the scheme owner of JAS. MAFF accredits certification bodies according to ISO/IEC 17011. In this process, technical assessment is performed by FAMIC (Food and Agricultural Materials Inspection Center), which is an agency in close cooperation with MAFF. The certification bodies accredited by MAFF certify business operators, such as farmers and food companies. This certification is conducted in accordance with ISO standards, such as ISO/IEC 17065 and ISO/IEC 17021-1. The certification bodies check whether the operator produces products or services meeting the JAS criteria. Under this system, the JAS system assures the good quality or service of agricultural, forestry and fishery products. Also, the JAS system has an accreditation system for laboratories. The testing business operators accredited by MAFF can issue test reports with the JAS symbol. This means that accredited testing business operators can show appropriate analytical abilities under the JAS system. The JAS system contributes to improving the reliability of products, services and test results. List of CBs
