The Damages caused by the 2011 Off the Pacific Coast Tohoku Earthquake and Actions taken by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Implementation of Food/Drink Assistance, etc (19:00 on March 26)

This is abstract of rescue operations by fisheries patrol/research vessels by 19:00 on March 26, 2011.

1. Search Activities
The fisheries patrol vessels of Fishery Agency, MAFF are engaged in the search activities on site in cooperation with Japan Coast Guard.

2. Transportation of assistance supplies
Six Fishery Agency’s patrol/research vessels (499 – 2,630ton) transport assistance supplies.
Foods, medicines, Kerosene oil and heavy fuel oil type A etc are transported from Kamaishi port and Sendai Shiogama port etc in corporation with Self-defense Force.
MAFF transports assistance supplies to isolated villages in Ojika peninsula in cooperation with many fishery boats, and researches damages in fishing villages.
(MAFF informed the safety of many inhabitants in Ojika peninsula to local government of Ishinomaki City. This information is also uploaded in website of MAFF.)

3. Next transportation of assistance supplies
Nisshin Maru (8,044ton), the Mother vessel for whaling research, which can transport big loads, has shipped from Oi-Futo port on March 25 and is transporting many assistance supplies such as foods, household goods and heavy fuel oil type A.

4. Research on damages in fishing ports and related facilities toward reconstruction
MAFF researches damages in major fishing ports, related facilities and major fishing areas from vessels.
