The Damages caused by The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake and Actions taken by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries - Estimated area of agricultural land damaged by washout and flood caused by the tsunami disaster.(March 29)

     MAFF has conducted survey for estimating total area of agricultural land which was damaged by washout and flood caused by the tsunami disaster.

       As a result of the survey, it was estimated that total damaged area in 6 prefectures facing the Pacific coast, (Aomori, Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima, Ibaraki and Chiba prefecture) would be 24,000 ha.

     The survey was newly conducted based on the updated information of satellite photo and other site survey of damaged area.

       The estimate includes the number of damaged area calculated by each prefecture and municipality.

       The estimate will be updated as the survey proceeds further.
