Request from MAFF to implement thoroughly the restraint and the voluntary restraint on shipment of agricultural, forestry and fisheries products affected by the accident of the nuclear power station(April 13)

MAFF requested wholesale market founders and related organizations to make sure that restricted agricultural products are not stocked, in relation to the accident of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station on April 13.

To related organizations
Director of Commerce and Marketing Division
General Food Policy Bureau
Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries

Request to implement thoroughly the restraint and the voluntary restraint of shipment of agricultural products affected by the accident of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station of Tokyo Electric Power Company

I appreciate your understanding and cooperation with public administration of food distribution industry.
After the accident of Tokyo Electric Power Company’s Fukushima Nuclear Power Station due to the Great East Japan Earthquake, MAFF requested food related organizations several times to make sure the agricultural products which are subject to the restraint of shipping are not sold.
However, before the Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters issued the instruction for the shipment restraint, some vegetables, which are restrained from shipment by prefecture decision, were distributed at the retail level, and then, they were sold to consumers.
Therefore, MAFF request you to inform thoroughly affiliated member companies to check once again not to stock the restraint and the voluntary restraint agricultural products.
Hereafter, even though prefectures and municipalities will provide direction to jobbers in producing area, I would appreciate it if you, retailer and wholesaler, could additionally inform them of the intent of “instruction for restraint of shipment” and “request for voluntary restraint of shipment”.
