Regarding disposition of livestock animals with mercy killing in the area of the No-entry Zone in the consequence of the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station of Tokyo Electric Power Company(as of May 12)

Today, Director-General of the Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters ordered Fukushima prefectural government to dispose livestock animals with procedures of mercy killing in the area of the No-entry Zone.

  1. Today, Director-General of the Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters (same as the Prime Minister) instructed Fukushima prefectural government to dispose livestock animals which are still alive in the area of the No-entry Zone, by the procedures of mercy killing with the permission of their owners.
  2. The above-mentioned instruction resulted from the sufficient consultation with the Fukushima prefectural government, responding to the situation in which feeding management of livestock became difficult because of the establishment of the Evacuation Zone and the No-entry Zone.
  3. The central government and Fukushima prefectural government are supposed to work together in regard to actual measures (such as mercy killing and liming) taken in that area.
