Home > The Great East Japan Earthquake > About agencies inspecting radioactive substances on export food(As of February 1)
Since the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011, in response to the accident of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station, some countries are requesting inspection of radioactive substances on foods that are exported from Japan. Due to the limitation on the number of testing equipment in Japan, taking inspection for the purpose of export is still difficult. However, it is becoming possible for some agencies to use the equipment for the export purpose.
Information of the agencies is summarized as follows, including plans for future preparation of testing equipment. In some countries for exports, the certificate issued by public institutions may be required on the inspection result of radioactive substances. Please confirm the country's import conditions on MAFF website when you export.
Please note that some countries for exports request the certification of ISO/IEC17025 to inspection agencies or GLP of inspection agencies.
(1) MAFF gained agreement with inspection agencies on listing their names on MAFF's website.
(2) Regarding specific inspection methods and charge, please ask directly to each inspection agency.
(3) MAFF does not assure the implementation of inspections by agencies listed below because these agencies are those that have conducted inspections or that have possibilities of conducting inspections.

(1) Inspection agencies listed in this website are those registered as institutions which conduct inspections of various foods, and among them, there are agencies which are specialized in specific foods inspections or which are incapable of conducting inspections of radioactive substances. So please contact directly to each agency through exporters etc. if you would like to know the possibility of conducting inspections of radioactive substances.
(2) Regarding specific inspection methods and charge, please ask directly to each inspection agency through exporters etc.
(3) Inspection agencies listed in this website are those registered as institutions which conduct inspections of various foods, and it is not assured whether the results of inspections of radioactive substances are valid. So if you request inspections to these agencies, please confirm whether the results of inspections are acceptable in the country for export through exporters etc.
(4) If you send samples etc. to inspection agencies listed for requesting inspections of radioactive substances, please confirm through exporters etc. to make sure the way to send them.
List of official inspection agencies in exporting countries is available from Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare website ( http://www.mhlw.go.jp/topics/yunyu/5/index.html )
