ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS) Project

 Background・Objective 

• AFSIS project has been implemented by Japanese financial contribution since 2003 according to the agreement at “the 1st Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministers of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea” held in 2001
  
•  The project aims to provide accurate and reliable information timely, which is necessary for the food security in this region.

Outline

• To develop and release useful statistical information on food security 
• To implement trainings in Japan and Thailand
  and mutual technical cooperation among ASEAN member states in order to enhance human resource development of agricultural statistics

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Outputs

• Improvement of the capacity on agricultural statistics in each member state through technical transfer by Japan.
• Development of the independent statistical database of ASEAN and short term forecast for agricultural production which had not existed before
• Publication of database and reports on the AFSIS website

Statistical Database

Data on Production, Harvested Area, Price for Rice, Maize, Cassava, Soybean and Sugar cane, Population , GDP etc are easy to search.

Short Term Forecast for Agricultural Production

“Early Warning Information” includes  forecast for production in current year. “Agricultural Commodity Outlook ” includes  forecast for supply and  demand  in  current year and  following year.
