Veterinary drugs are used for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases. They contribute not only to the maintenance and improvement of safe animal products, but also to the health of companion animals, such as dogs and cats. In addition, they play an important role in improving public health through the control of zoonosis.
The National Veterinary Assay Laboratory(NVAL) is responsible for determining whether animal drugs are safe and efficacious. To assure quality, the NVAL conducts tests and provides guidance on the development, manufacture(or import)and use of veterinary drugs.
