The institute focuses on the following four research areas in order to promote appropriate research that refl ects the important topics related to agriculture, forestry and fi sheries policies and the direction of policy development.

Stable food supply

World food markets and the structural changes of food supply/demand
Effects of the trend in bio-fuel production on food production and the environment
International efforts against global environmental issues

Promoting agricultural policy reform

Socioeconomic evaluation of the policies for reinforcing agriculture including the Farm Management Stabilization Program, which has been newly introduced by the Basic Law of Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas

Revitalization of rural communities

Policies for revitalizing rural communities and conserving/utilizing local resources
Promotion of new agricultural policies in line with the progress of decentralization and administrative and fiscal reforms

Trends in major countries and regions

Relationship between changes in trade of major countries/region and their policies
