Research Cooperation (FANEA)

The Policy Research Institute MAFF (PRIMAFF) agreed, advancing research interchange with foreign countries, to establish the Forum for Agricultural Policy Research in North East Asia, with the Institute of Agricultural Economics and Development, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IAED/CAAS) and the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI), for research cooperation.

Mission 

• To exchange data and resources and to stimulate forums led by institutes and researchers that are interested in agriculture and rural community studies in the region. 
• To develop a research network of research institutes and experts of each nation who are interested in research cooperation in the North East Asian agriculture and rural community in the near future.

Major Activities

• Exchange of journals, publications and information.
• Establishment of a homepage for the research forum and its operation to promote a personal network of contacts and to provide access to database information.
• Arrange relevant meetings and seminars to promote joint research(the three institutes take turns hosting seminars more than once a year).
• Identifying new projects in area of mutual interest and joint study (e.g.) Research on Comparative Studies on the Agricultural Competitiveness of the Northeast Asian Countries. 

In March 2003, PRIMAFF, the Korea Rural Economic Institute (KREI) and the Institute of Agricultural Economics, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science (IAE/CAAS) founded the Forum for Agricultural Policy Research in
North East Asia (FANEA). The three institutes cooperate in studying various issues including agricultural structure, agri-environment and agricultural trade in North East Asia.
As part of the research cooperation, the institutes have took turns holding annual international symposiums since 2003. Each year, the institutes report their outputs and discuss under particular subjects regarding agriculture
and agricultural policies in northeast Asia. The 3rd and 6th symposiums were held in Japan.
