Enhancing Effective Participation in Codex Activities
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) has funded a series of regional projects of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to enhance the capacity of food safety in ASEAN countries since 2002. In 2011, the regional project (GCP/RAS/280/JPN) sharpened its focus on Codex Alimentarius*, with the goal of protecting the health of consumers and ensuring fair practices in the food trade within ASEAN countries and with other countries including Japan. Over the last decade, the regional projects have contributed greatly to enhancing the capacity of recipient countries to contribute to Codex standards setting and to implement adopted Codex standards. Currently, the project titled "Enhancing Capacity in Codex for Effective Participation and Contribution of Selected Countries in Asia (GCP/RAS/278/JPN)" is underway.
