The Minister's Awards for Overseas Promotion of Japanese Food

The Minister's Award for Overseas Promotion of Japanese Food is awarded to persons who have made outstanding contributions to the introduction and spread of Japanese cuisine, Japanese food and other Japanese agricultural and fishery products overseas.

Certification of Japanese Food and Ingredient Supporter Stores Overseas

Private organizations voluntarily certify overseas restaurants and retailers that actively use Japanese ingredients as Japanese Ingredients Supporter Stores.

Certification of Cooking Skills for Japanese Cuisine in Foreign Countries

Private organizations voluntarily certify foreign chefs who have reached a certain level of knowledge and cooking skills regarding Japanese cuisine.

Special Goodwill Ambassador and Goodwill Ambassador to Spread Japanese Cuisine

To communicate the appeals of Japanese food and dietary cultures and Japanese Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Products and Food (hereinafter, “Japanese food and dietary, culture etc.”) ,Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has appointed  “Japanese Cuisine Special Goodwill Ambassador” and “Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador.”

Washoku World Challenge(Archive)

The Washoku World Challenge is a Japanese cuisine competition organised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), which has been held 11 times from 2013 to 2023. The competition is aimed at foreign Japanese cooks who have a strong interest in Japanese cuisine and make daily efforts to improve their knowledge and skills.

We introduce Japanese recipes suited for Middle Eastern home cooking, as well as Arabian recipes adapted using Japanese ingredients.


Geographical Indication (GI)

In Japan, there are many regional brand products which are high quality and have obtained reputation as a result of unique production methods and natural characteristics of the production area such as climate and soil conditions. The GI Act therefore provides a system that the government protects names of such products as Intellectual Property.
