Ensuring the safety of veterinary drugs
Veterinary Medicinal Products (VMPs) are used for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of animal diseases, and are the required materials for improving the productivity and safety of livestock and fishery products, and maintaining the health of companion animals.
In order to effectively and safely achieve the purpose of use of these VMPs, VMPs are regulated based on the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Act, the same Act that regulates human pharmaceuticals, in each stage of development, manufacture (import), distribution, and specification.
Antimicrobial resistance
Veterinary antimicrobial agents are used as VMPs for the treatment of diseases, and antimicrobial feed additives are used with the goal of effectively utilizing the nutritional components of the feed, and are the important materials for protecting the health of animals and for stably producing safe livestock products.
In order to reduce the risk of antimicrobial resistant bacteria, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is engaged in risk management to ensure the appropriate and prudent use of VMPs in the animal field, and to monitor antimicrobial resistant bacteria.
