Link with the Production Area

About 90% of the entire producing area is mountainous, where wild chestnuts grow naturally, so chestnuts were used to pay taxes during the Edo period. Since the beginning of the Showa period, the village has been worked together to cultivate high-quality chestnuts, which were presented to the Emperor Showa, raising its recognition. Today, 80% of all farmers in the village cultivate "Yamae Chestnut". The village government set the "Yamae Chestnut Guri Ordinance", positioning Yamae Chestnut as a "treasure" of the village and promoting activities centered on chestnuts.
