The Symposium for Promoting Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems through Innovation (November 21, 2023, Indonesia)

The ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation 50th Anniversary Symposium, titled “Promoting Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture and Food System through Innovation: ASEAN’s Initiatives and Japan's Contribution,” supported by The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), was held on November 21
at the ASEAN Secretariat, Jakarta, Indonesia, co-hosted by the ASEAN Secretariat and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF).

2. Symposium Overview

The symposium aimed to facilitate the mutual sharing of recent policy initiatives, knowledge, and technologies
on building resilient and sustainable agriculture and food systems to ensure food security in the region.

In this symposium, government representatives from ASEAN Member States presented ASEAN’s agriculture policy initiatives, including the “ASEAN Leaders’ Declaration on Strengthening Food Security and Nutrition in Response
to Crises,” and MAFF Japan presented an overview of its agricultural cooperation strategy, “The ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan,” which was adopted this October in the ASEAN-Japan Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry Meeting (AJMAF), and concrete collaboration projects described in its strategy.

3. Related Events

The Forum on ASEAN Regional Guidelines for Sustainable Agriculture was held on November 22 and 23.
MAFF Japan presented the catalog titled “Technology Catalog Contributing to Production Potential and Sustainability in the Asia-Monsoon Region” at this event in connection with this symposium.
