Minister Sakamoto’s Visit to the Kingdom of Thailand（May 3-5, 2024）

1. Meeting with Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Kingdom of Thailand

Minister Sakamoto met with H.E. Capt. Thamanat Prompow, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Kingdom of Thailand. Ministers recognized to implement four cooperation projects as the first priorities under the "ASEAN-Japan MIDORI Cooperation Plan". To diversify export destinations for Japanese seafood products, Minister Sakamoto underlined safety of Japanese seafood products and asked for cooperation to expand Japanese sales network in Thailand. Ministers confirmed to continue high-level discussions, and both ountries issued press releases outlining the details of the meeting.

2. Visit to the Japan-Thailand Joint Venture Retail Store

Minister Sakamoto visited the Japan-Thailand joint venture retail store by CP-Uoriki that aims to expand stores in Thailand since its establishment in 2023, to understand the conditions for export expansion of Japan's fishery products.

3. Visit to the Japan-Thailand Joint Venture Demonstration Farm

Minister Sakamoto visited the Japan-Thailand joint venture demonstration farm by Kubota Farm and observed cutting-edge smart agriculture technology adapted to Thailand's agricultural environment.

4. Attending the Seafood Menu Proposal Meeting for Importers and Restaurants

With the cooperation of Iron Chef, a famous chef in Thailand, a proposal meeting for international cuisine menus using scallops was held. Minister Sakamoto attended this meeting and promoted business negotiations with importers and restaurants.

5. Attending the Japan Food Export Platform General Assembly in Thailand

Minister Sakamoto attended the Japan Food Export Platform General Assembly in Thailand and exchanged views on diversifying export destinations for Japanese seafood products. Minister Sakamoto also announced to support the "Expansion of Sales Network Program for Seafood Products".
