What is the Sustainable Consortium 2030 - for Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Food

Introduction

Our lives benefit greatly from natural environment.
However, despite the tremendous benefits of our food system that we receive from nature, when we buy or eat something, we are often unaware of its impact on the natural environment.

The food industry, of course, and even agriculture, forestry and fisheries are vulnerable to natural disasters, but they themselves without any environmental care may give a negative impact on nature.

In order for future generations to inherit food resource and a pleasant environment, we need to pay attention to various issues surrounding the natural environment, such as climate change and the biodiversity loss.

Under the influence of the pandemic in 2020, it became clear that our lives are supported by many stakeholders engaged in food and agriculture, forestry and fisheries.

And we were reminded that the resilience and sustainability of our lives are built on the healthy environment of the agriculture, forestry, fisheries and food industries.

In order to allow consumers to choose products produced in a healthy environment, the value of healthy and environmentally friendly activities needs to be visualized.

A healthy and sustainable system cannot be created by an individual activity, therefore, each good activity needs to be connected throughout the food chain.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has launched Sustainable Consortium 2030 - for Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Food ("SCAFFF2030")- a consortium of companies and organizations which are engaged in actions to achieve the food and agricultural sustainability, to promote the value visualization and environmentally conscious consumption.

We call this project "Afunowa" in Japanese, AFU is an acronym for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Food. Food and agriculture, forestry and fisheries. In ancient Japanese, it means to meet, to mix, and to eat. WA means circle of the project.

Our Action
