The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) is responsible for the safety of domestically produced foods and the safety of feed, whether domestically produced or imported, through risk management related activities including establishing and implementing good practices in food chain. To ensure the safety of food and feed, MAFF implemented in 2005 food safety risk management consistent with the internationally agreed framework. MAFF prioritizes chemical and microbiological hazards in food and feed on a basis of the criteria (Click the relevant issues below) . For prioritization, MAFF prepares risk profiles summarizing scientific and other relevant information on food and feed safety problem. MAFF has been developing occurrence data of chemical and microbiological hazards in food/feed based on the priority list and the Mid-term and Annual Surveillance/Monitoring Program, and statistically analyzing these data. Utilizing scientific evidence, MAFF develops codes of practice as necessary for reducing hazards in food/feed to improve food safety and ensure consumers' health protection. |
