Both Entry into and Departure from Japan - Livestock and Domesticated Animals
Quarantine inspections are required for the import and export of cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, horses, chickens, pheasant, ostrich, guinea fowl, turkeys, quail, Anseriformes such as ducks, geese, etc., and honey bees.
In addition, quarantine inspections will also be required for cloven-hoofed animals (hippopotamuses, giraffes, etc.) other than cattle, pigs, goats and sheep and for members of the horse family (zebras, etc.) other than horses.
However, it is prohibited or temporarily-suspended to import cloven-hoofed animals from some countries:

- Bovine, Ovine or Goat from countries/areas which BSE(Bovine Spongeform Encephalopathy) have occuered
- Poultry and these products from countries/areas which Avian influenza have ouucered
- Swine and these products from countries/areas which Classical swine fever have occuered
- Deer and these products from countries/areas which CWD(Chronic Wasting Disease) have occuered
During specific period(depends on animal species) prior to arrival in or departure from Japan, you must submit a notification form for import or an application form for export to Animal Quarantine Service, Yokohama Head office. The Head office notify you a quarantine facility and inspection schedule after they are adjusted.
It is able to import animals at only designated following 17 ports:
Sea ports: Tomakomai Port, Keihin Port (Tokyo, Yokohama), Nagoya Port, Hanshin Port (Osaka, Kobe), Kanmon Port, Hakata Port, Kagoshima Port and Naha Port
Airports: Shin(New)-Chitose Airport, Narita International Airport, Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), Chubu International Airport, Kansai International Airport, Kitakyushu Airport, Fukuoka Airport, Kagoshima Airport and Naha Airport
